Our History

SINCE THE COMPANY WAS FOUNDED IN 1979, SHANAHAN ENGINEERING HAS TRANSFORMED TO MEET THE UNIQUE AND EVOLVING NEEDS OF THE GLOBAL POWER INDUSTRY.

Starting out as a rotating equipment field-service company, Shanahan Engineering quickly expanded to provide construction management and M&E construction services to leading global original equipment manufacturers.

Since then, we have branched into numerous geographical regions and power plant technologies, earning the experience and reputation that makes us a world-class Construction, Commissioning, Manpower Supply and Consultancy company.

KEY MILESTONES

  • 1979: Establishment

    From our first office in Dublin, Ireland, Shanahan Engineering’s founders began applying their extensive power generation expertise to large turbine-generator and boiler construction projects taking place all over Europe.

  • 1982-1998: Expansion into USA and Middle East

    Bringing our experience in oil, gas, and coal-fired power plant projects and highly skilled resources, we established ourselves as leaders in the global energy generation sector by delivering projects in new geographical locations.

  • 2001: Installation of World-First H-Class Turbine

    Over four decades, we’ve used our cross-industry knowledge to deliver innovative power generation solutions, including the world’s first H-Class turbine.

  • 2005: Awarded Main Construction Management Contract at Huntstown

    During Phase II of the Huntstown power plant development, our skilled team was brought in to manage construction and deploy the relevant, experienced resources required to meet the project’s tight deadlines.

  • 2009: Wood Group Acquisition

    As part of its “strategy to expand and enhance its EPC capability and extend geographic footprint”, the FTSE-100 company provided us with enhanced financial backing and the ability to expand into more locations. Shanahan were bought directly by Wood in 2009.

  • 2011: Medupi, South Africa Project Begins

    Providing construction services for six higher-efficiency boilers, this contract win in South Africa enabled us to work on the world’s largest dry-cooled, coal-fired power station and the 4th largest coal-fired power plant.

  • 2014: Ethos Energy Subsidiary

    Wood and Siemens create joint venture and acquire EthosEnergy. Shanahan becomes subsidiary of EthosEnergy.

  • 2018: JIGCC, Saudi Arabia Contract Awarded

    Having supported operations in the region for several years, our team was chosen to provide the commissioning management team and program required to test and commission this innovative, new thermal power system in Saudi Arabia.

  • 2022: Ethos Energy subsidiary

    Shanahan Engineering reveals a refreshed brand to align with the parent company EthosEnergy, and strengthened the depth of the organisation further.

  • Now: Generating Value Across the Globe

    Whatever the future holds for the Shanahan Engineering team, we will continue to learn and grow our offering while striving to bring innovation and the highest safety and quality standards to every power generation project.
